Nagaoka MP-700 Cartridge sets a new benchmark in audiophile-grade performance as Nagaoka unveils its flagship moving permalloy cartridge ahead of its official debut at High End Munich 2025. Celebrating 85 years of engineering excellence, the Japanese audio specialist designed the MP-700 for uncompromising precision and fidelity. Leveraging the brand’s renowned Moving Permalloy (MP) technology, the new cartridge features an ultra-lightweight permalloy element, dramatically reducing moving mass to deliver ultra-precise groove tracking and lifelike sound reproduction.

At the heart of the Nagaoka MP-700 Cartridge is a premium boron cantilever, coupled with a micro-ridge nude diamond stylus measuring just 0.12 x 0.3 mil. Paired with the cartridge’s softest damper to date, this combination maximizes responsiveness and fine detail retrieval. An all-new integrated suspension wire enhances tracking stability and ensures superb channel separation of up to 30 dB at 1 kHz. With a frequency response stretching from 20Hz to 27,000Hz and an output of 4 mV (1kHz, 5cm/sec), the MP-700 delivers articulate highs, solid bass, and stunning timbral accuracy. A vertical tracking force of 1.4g is recommended for optimal playback.

Constructed with an ultra-duralumin frame and encased in a triple-layered shield featuring nickel plating, black tin, and insulating coating, the MP-700 is built for longevity and performance. The standard version weighs 8g (26.3g with headshell) and retails at £1,149, while the MP-700H headshell bundle is priced at £1,249. The JN-P700 replacement stylus will be available separately for £599. Not sure how the MP-700 compares to its sibling models?
