Electrocompaniet EC5 Preamplifier Debuts at High End Munich 2025 after ten years of meticulous development, marking a bold evolution in the Norwegian brand’s high-end audio design. The EC 5 is crafted to “redefine signal integrity,” featuring a proprietary electronic volume control system housed behind a precision-milled acrylic front panel and bearing-mounted dial. Unlike traditional mechanical solutions, this custom-engineered system actively maintains a consistent signal path across more than 900 ultra-precise volume steps—ranging from -100dB to +20dB in 0.1dB increments—maximizing fidelity and eliminating signal degradation.

The Electrocompaniet EC5 Preamplifier operates in pure Class A and incorporates a fully discrete, dual-mono architecture. Each audio channel is supported by independent 80VA toroidal transformers and 15,000μF of power reservoir, ensuring rock-solid performance and ultra-low distortion even under demanding conditions. Leveraging the company’s high-slew-rate AmpliWire topology and capacitor-free signal path, the EC 5 handles 600-ohm loads and long cable runs effortlessly. Inside, analog stages are physically and electrically isolated from power and control circuits, enhancing clarity and reducing potential interference. Protection systems against thermal overload and DC faults further bolster stability and system safety.

Tech enthusiasts will appreciate the 7-inch color IPS display, customizable source naming, visual mains voltage monitoring, and Ethernet-based app control packed into an elegant chassis. I/O includes four balanced and two unbalanced inputs per channel, dual balanced outputs, and tape/record outputs in both balanced and unbalanced formats. At Munich, Electrocompaniet paired the EC 5 with Ø Audio Verdande speakers and AW800 M monoblocks—a setup that left a lasting impression. While official pricing has yet to be confirmed, availability is projected for early Autumn. Dive deeper into our Electrocompaniet coverage for more insights on this premium audio pioneer.
