Audio-Technica has unveiled its next-generation AT-VMx Cartridge Series, a significant evolution in its VM lineup and the most comprehensive upgrade since 2016. Combining cutting-edge materials with precision engineering, the series aims to deliver the highest performance ever in the brand’s history of cartridge design. Leveraging PCUHD (Pure Copper Ultra High Drawability) conductors for each model’s coil, the AT-VMx Cartridge Series enhances audio quality with a more dynamic low-end response and an expansive, immersive soundstage. A newly optimized coil structure with fewer windings increases efficiency and contributes to a musically rich playback experience.
Ease of use hasn’t been overlooked. Each cartridge features integrated threaded fittings, simplifying the mounting process on integrated tonearms. A redesigned flip-up stylus guard sports a V-cut indicator to pinpoint the stylus tip location—making cueing onto vinyl more precise. The lineup includes everything from the entry-level AT-VM510xCB with a bonded conical stylus to the high-end AT-VM760xSL, which boasts a special line contact stylus for unrivaled groove tracking and spatial audio fidelity. Mid-range options such as the AT-VM530xEN with a nude elliptical stylus offer excellent balance between cost and audio quality, positioning it as the series’ sweet spot.
For fans of mono recordings, the lineup includes the AT-VM610xMONO and the SP-record-ready AT-VM670xSP, both offering specialized tracing solutions. Premium models like the AT-VM750xSH with a Shibata stylus provide superior high-frequency clarity and midrange depth, housed in low-resonance die-cast aluminum alloy bodies. The AT-VMx Cartridge Series will be available from May 15, 2025, with prices starting at £99 / €119. Replacement styli start at £49 / €59, and select models will also be offered in headshell bundles beginning at £169 / €199.
